Where top performers excel

The top performers you admire are probably also really good project managers.

I've been studying them 🤓

Many of them are not necessarily deep subject matter experts at anything other than getting things done.

But they do this at such a next level that project managers should be taking notes.

Here are a few things I've found top performers excel at:

1) Clarity and focus

  • They aren't confused about what the goal is.

  • They have a vision and often and easily communicate it to others.

  • They know that alignment comes naturally when everyone is on the same page.

2) Productivity and prioritization

  • They treat time as their most precious resource and make sure that every task is optimized and contributes toward moving the needle.

  • They know inefficient use of time is a great way to never reach goals, so top performers employ all kinds of hacks and tools to avoid this problem.

  • Progress over perfection is their mantra (project managers, this is something you can work on 😅).

3) Organization and delegation

  • They effortlessly think of everything in terms of a work breakdown structure.

  • They have systems, methods, and frameworks that have been refined over time to help them communicate and store information.

  • And when it comes time to track and manage tasks, they aren't too proud to delegate.

4) Emotional intelligence and self care

  • Top performers have often already experienced burnt out, so they take repeated, daily steps to prevent it from happening again.

  • They know success is all about balance, and ultimately understanding the human condition.
