Do this to get started as a freelance project manager

If you have ever sent me a DM for advice about how to get started as a freelance project manager, it’s very likely that I’ve given you some version of the words below.

I go into detail about this in my Freelance Project Manager Guide Book as well, so if you haven’t grabbed a copy check it out on Gumroad.

Basically, you need to do this:

👉 Get clear about who you are, how you add value, who your ideal client is, and the type of work you want to do.

It might seem basic but it’s key to your success as a freelance PM.

That’s because these days project management is so broad. Simply calling yourself a “project manager” doesn’t get you very far.

Here are a few areas you can zero in to get clear on your project manager identity and help reach your goals as a freelancer:

✅ Domain or subject matter
✅ Methodology or framework
✅ Industry
✅ Size of organization
✅ Specialties like meeting facilitation or training
✅ Systems or tech stack

Still need help? I'm here for it.
