What it took to build my freelance project management business

The last four years have gone something like this for me:

➡ YEAR ONE:
Started moonlighting as a project manager and YouTube content creator while I worked a full time job.

➡ YEAR TWO:
Lost my job for the second time in two years which was the catalyst to taking my business more seriously. I wanted it to work so badly that I managed one-off projects that I hated during the day, stayed up until 2am each night working on my business, and cleaned houses on the weekends to make ends meet.

➡ YEAR THREE:
Finally started to land more satisfying, regular, and lucrative work as I began to learn and leverage the power of networking. Simultaneously leaned heavily into content creation and building my network online while continuing to manage projects.

➡ YEAR FOUR:
Secured bigger projects that aligned with my values, goals, and vision and began working one on one with people to teach them what I had learned. Currently I'm providing strategic consulting to entrepreneurs who are launching their own purpose-driven initiatives. ⭐

I'll be honest, Years 1-3 were very difficult. I made tough sacrifices because I believed in myself and my vision.

That's because from the beginning I knew what I wanted. I didn't always know how to get there, but I trusted in the process and diligently worked everyday toward my goals.

People often bring up the subject of fear when I share parts of my story. Of course I have a fear of failure just like anyone else, but the fact that I had recently experienced massive failure and personal losses allowed me to see my circumstances a bit differently. My fears didn’t go away, but they did change. It became more of a fear of NOT pursuing the business.

I still have a long way to go, but each day that goes by I become more confident in myself and trusting in the future.

Whether you are thinking about getting started, at the beginning of your journey, or 10 years in, I would like to offer you encouragement today.

You've got this, keep going in whatever way makes sense for you today 💙
