The truth about project management

PSA: Project Management is not a get rich quick scheme. đź“˘

And while we are at it, neither is freelancing.

I’ve always been up front and honest about the fact that I have multiple income streams as a freelance project manager.

When I first started out, I had income from rental property that helped me bridge the gap on my somewhat unpredictable freelancing income.

A couple of years ago I even took part time work as a housekeeper to help make ends meet.

Now, I have multiple client contracts, coaching income, digital product revenue, and maybe even one of these days my channel will become monetized on YouTube (conquering watch hours has been a beast).

My income is more than it was as a full time employee, but that doesn’t mean I’m independently wealthy. It’s project management, after all (no offense to project managers everywhere!).

And this is not to say you can’t build an empire for yourself, but let’s be honest that there’s probably more to it than “project management” at that point.

I’m mentioning this here because there seems to be an idea floating around that project management is the “easy” six-figure career choice. In some cases, I’ve seen influencers suggesting salaries that cause me to raise an eyebrow. 🤨

Again - not to say you can’t build a business that generates higher income (I’m all for that - please do that!), but your project management job probably won’t do that on its own. đź’ˇ
