Are you an expert?

I’m not an expert on every project in the world and neither are you. 💡

I know a lot about the projects I’ve personally led, so you might refer to me as the de facto “expert” on those, but otherwise I simply consider myself a passionate student of projects and life.

That’s not to say I don’t have the confidence to understand how to put together the basic pieces of the project puzzle, but I certainly don’t know everything about everything.

These days, project management is so broad. There are people who study things like theory, methodology, and management styles in great depth. I am not one of those people. I’m more of a boots on the ground person so my commentary here tends to lean more practical. But even then, I’m just one person with one perspective and my personal set of experiences.

Beyond that, there are domains and subject matter and industries and even organizational hierarchy that can impact how you should make decisions for your particular project.

My point is, whatever advice you take, whether it’s from me or someone else, filter it through your own lens of what’s appropriate for you in your scenario.

Understand that blanket advice is meant to be broad and therefore may or may not be applicable for you. That’s up to you to decide.

Only you know your project. 💫
